Beginning in the evening of Sunday, February 9 and ending in the evening of Monday, February 10, Tu B’Shvat is a Jewish holiday that celebrates ecological awareness.

In order to celebrate this “New Year of Trees,” we have organized some fun events throughout our center and we can’t wait to see YOU there.

1. Mother’s Milk Bank Baby Cafe Grand Opening – February 5 at 10:00 am, JCC Main Lobby (free to attend!)

Plant a tree in celebration of Tu B’shvat and in honor of Mothers’ Milk Bank opening at the J! Relax with some quality refreshments, share experiences, tips, and techniques, and socialize with other parents in a child-friendly, comfortable space.

2. Tu B’Shvat Recycle City – February 9 at 3:00 pm, Mizel Reception Room ($5+)

Let your children’s imaginations run wild as they create a city out of recyclables! While they create their mini-cities, parents will participate in an educational discussion about the benefits of imaginative play.

3. Denver Jewish Film Fest Double Header – February 10, JCC Elaine Wolf Theatre ($14)

Sustainable Nation | 5:30 pm

Sustainable Nation follows three individuals who are doing their part to bring sustainable water solutions to an increasingly thirsty planet. Followed by a post-screening panel discussion.

Picture of His Life | 7:30 pm

Amos Nachoum is one of the greatest underwater photographers of all time. Fascinated by the most fearsome creatures on Earth, he has developed a unique approach that puts him face to face with his subjects, without any protection. Followed by post-screening Q&A with writer/director.

4.  Staff Recycled Tree Making!

Remember those amazing Menorahs around the J our staff built for Hanukkah? Well, we’re doing something similar for Tu B’Shvat! Each department is going to build a tree made out of our specific department’s materials and showcase them in the main lobby. The best part? The winning department will receive a tree planted in Israel in their honor.

Tu B’Shvat is one of our favorite Jewish holidays here at the J, and we hope to celebrate with you and yours as the big, bold community we are!
