Marshall Carpenter, our fantastic Director of Tennis, has been with the J Tennis Center since it reopened in 2015.
Last month, he was awarded with the extremely prestigious title of USPTA’s (United States Professional Tennis Association) Small Facility Manager of the Year! Learn more about our wonderful Director of Tennis below.
Are you a native of Colorado? If not, where did you move from and when?
Marshall Carpenter: I’m originally from Chicago but my family moved to Colorado when I was in middle school and we have been here ever since.
Do you have children? If so, how old are they, and what are their names?
MC: Yes, my wife Lindsey and I have three children, Quincy (7), Camden (5) and Hayes (8 months).
How did you become interested in Tennis?
MC: I started playing tennis my sophomore year in high school after playing football, basketball, and baseball growing up. Ankle surgery made my parents want me to play something else and I tried tennis. I immediately feel in love with it and have been playing ever since.
You were recently awarded the title of USPTA’s Small Facility Manager of the year––congratulations! How did you find out you’d won?
MC: The awards committee for the Intermountain Division (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada & Idaho) contacted me in late December to let me know I had won. I will be recognized for the award in February at our annual convention. I’m honored to be recognized for this award but I couldn’t have achieved this without a great team around me. My staff has been great and I love the things that we are doing at the tennis center.
