Celebrating Courage, History, and Change Through Denver Children’s Theatre
Batter up! Denver Children’s Theatre will present Magic Tree House: A Big Day for Baseball in February and March 2027 at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center. This energetic and inspiring musical follows siblings Jack and Annie as they travel back to 1947 and experience the historic day Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s race barrier. Filled with music, humor, and heart, this production brings history to life while celebrating themes of courage, perseverance, and doing what is right, making it a meaningful way for all to honor Black History Month.

School Group FAQs
When should we arrive?
Please plan to arrive between 10:30 and 10:45 am. Our staff will meet you at your bus or outside the theatre and help direct your group to its assigned seating. If your bus arrives before 10:30 am, we may ask you to remain on the bus until we have enough space in the lobby to safely accommodate your students.
What time does the show start?
The performance begins promptly at 11:00 am.
How long is the show?
The performance runs approximately 50–60 minutes. After the show, schools will be dismissed by school group and in the order of the buses to help streamline the exit process.
What is the Encore Program (Denver location only)?
The Encore Program gives students an opportunity to go beyond the performance and learn more about theatre! Students will participate in a Q&A with the actors, get a behind-the-scenes look at how the production was created, and take a tour of the theatre.
Please note that the backstage tour requires the use of stairs. An alternative experience can be provided with advance notice.
School groups participating in Encore will be assigned one of the following schedules:
- 11:00 am – 12:00 pm | Performance
- 12:00 – 12:15 pm | Q&A with Actors
- 12:15 – 12:45 pm | Lunch A OR Backstage Tour B
- 12:45 – 1:15 pm | Lunch B OR Backstage Tour A
- 1:15 – 1:30 pm | Return to Transportation
If your school has specific timing needs, please let our booking staff know and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
Is there a lunch space available?
Yes! Limited lunch space is available for school groups. There is a $1 per student fee to help cover the cost of our housekeeping staff.
Denver Location-There are two available lunch windows:
- 10:15 – 10:45 am | Lunch before the performance
- 12:00 – 12:30 pm | Lunch after the performance
Please note that the post-show lunch time is prioritized for schools participating in the Encore Program and is more limited.
Lafayette Location-There are three available lunch windows (availability is limited):
- 11:00 – 11:30 am | After the 10:00 am show
- 11:30 – 11:50 am | Before the 12:00 pm show
- 1:00 – 1:30 pm | After the 12:00 pm show
What time should our bus/transportation return?
We have onsite bus parking available for drivers who need to remain with their vehicles. Schools not participating in the Encore Program will be dismissed immediately following the performance. Schools participating in Encore will return to their transportation between 1:15 – 1:30 p.m.
What ages do you recommend this show for?
Students of all ages are welcome! The production is particularly recommended for students in Kindergarten–4th grade.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes! Title I schools receive discounted $10 student tickets. Additional financial assistance may also be available upon request. We are committed to making theatre accessible to all students and will work with your school totry to help make this experience possible.
How do parents buy tickets for the show?
Our team will create a seating chart based on the number of tickets in each group. If you have parents or guardians who want to join the field trip, they must purchase their ticket 2 weeks in advance from the performance or they may not be guaranteed to be able to sit with their school group. During Check out there will be question that will ask for the teacher and school name in order be grouped with the school seating. Any tickets purchased after the 2-week mark will be sat separately from the group.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
Cancellations must be submitted in writing at least 30 days before your performance to be eligible for a partial refund. Deposits are non-refundable. Please reach out to the box office if you need to request a cancellation.
What if I need to change the date of my group’s visit?
Performance date or ticket count changes must be requested at least 30 days in advance. While we will do our best to accommodate requests, changes cannot be guaranteed.
What is the payment policy for large groups?
Denver Children’s Theatre requires a non-refundable 50% deposit, which is due by November 13 to secure your reservation. Final payment is due by January 29, the final payment will be sent beginning in November. If your school requires an alternate payment plan, please contact our box office. We are happy to work with schools and large groups on a case-by-case basis.
