We are very excited to introduce Jay Berry as our brand new Director of Fitness & Wellness here at the J!

Having become the Director of our Fitness & Wellness Center last month, we figured it was time to introduce Jay to our J (get it?) family. A Colorado native, Jay has a ton of experience with fitness, management, and business; therefore, we feel he is an excellent addition to our JCC Denver community––and we’re sure you’ll all agree!

We’ve learned that you grew up in Colorado, but which town?

I grew up in Littleton. Graduated from Columbine High School and I am a proud Rebel to this day. Moved away for college and career. I finally worked my way back to the state in 2014.

What interests you most about fitness?

I began my career as an Exercise Specialist. I love exercise science––especially Kinesiology. I spent four years as a college professor teaching Kinesiology/The Science of Human Movement. I am fascinated by the body and mind’s ability to adapt.

What’s your favorite sport? Did you grow up playing on any sports teams?

My favorite sport is football, with baseball being a close second. I grew up playing both and continued playing football through college.

What do you hope to bring to your new role? What do you envision for the JCC Fitness & Wellness Center?

My vision for the JCC is to create an experience that will improve the quality of life for all of the members here and the surrounding community. Wellness is about the whole person. Health and fitness is but one part. Wellness also includes emotional, social, financial, academic, environmental, and spiritual components. The JCC is uniquely positioned to address all of these areas of wellness resulting in a higher quality of life for our members and community.
