Trey Terry, Former Tennis Instructor
Sadly, this is a feat for one of our former employees who is already missed in the Tennis Center. Trey Terry, one of our beloved Tennis Instructors, is following his dreams and will be caddying for his younger brother on the professional golf circuit. We will miss seeing his smiling face and witnessing his fantastic work ethic. When we reopened the Tennis Center in the fall of 2016, he worked the evening shifts and taught tennis to the preschoolers along with many juniors in our Junior Academy class. He greeted everyone with a huge smile as they walked through the door. We wish Trey the best of luck with his new chapter. We will miss you, Trey!
Camilla (Mia) VonBurkhardt, Personal Trainer
Mia has been a consistent part of our J Team and with the recent birth of her first child, she has become a role model for so many women who seek fitness as a way of life. Mia has returned stronger than ever following maternity leave and she’s ready to take on any challenge that comes her way. She is also a fantastic cheerleader for all of her clients–her Instagram (which you can see here) is a great representation of the kindness and support she shares with everyone one of her clients. She tracks their progress and shares it with the world in the form of “student spotlights.” The belief she has in her clients is what makes her our April fitness inspiration. Jared Blitz, Fitness & Wellness Manager
Jared Blitz is known throughout the building for his friendly personality and eagerness to help our J members and staff. Fittingly, during Heart Month, Jared found out that he had won an essay contest through the American College of Cardiology’s “CardioSmart” program. The ACC is the largest cardiology publication in the nation and it reaches a wide range of people, groups, etc. The CardioSmart contest was all about living well with heart disease, something that Mr. Blitz knows about all too well. The essay was published on February 22, and Jared’s childhood hospital where he received (and continues to) all of his treatment, is using his essay in their marketing material–talk about coming full circle! We are so proud of Jared for what he preaches and for making Heart Month such an outstanding success here at the J. You can read the press release regarding his contest-winning essay here.
Deb Weis, Tennis Desk Supervisor
If you have seen this special person in action lately, it is difficult to comprehend she just went through ACL reconstruction surgery. Everyone who frequents the JCC Tennis Center certainly missed her presence for the time she was out, but being born with genetically gifted quadriceps muscles and inspired by her favorite John Muir quote, “Not all who wander are lost,” she has come back to her position as the Front Desk Manager with full force, regaining control of the tight ship that is run with the junior and adult programs. An avid multi-sport athlete, Deb is focusing on regaining her stride so she can get back to blasting winners on the tennis court, spiking volleyballs into the sand, and finding her way into the endzone during her ultimate Frisbee battles. Stop in the Tennis Center to wish Deb the very best on her road to recovery. Congratulations on being February’s Feat of the Month winner, Deb!
