STEAM Specialty Camps
For future engineers, artists, and scientists… or anyone who like explosions, building robots, or likes to create things with different media! Get your STEAM fix this summer with two hours of project-based learning, facilitated by the best instructors in town. In addition to Specialty Instruction, campers will enjoy free swim, water games, and other camp activities as well as chugim (free choice activities). On Fridays, campers join the whole camp for Friday FUNday and camp-wide Shabbat programming.
Our goal for Shai STEAM campers is to engage them in hands-on educational projects. Studies show that engaging in summer enrichment-style programs increases academic engagement and performance during the school year. Who says science and engineering can’t be educational AND fun!?
JUNIOR MAKERS | Rising K
Specifically designed for campers going into kindergarten, our Junior Makers program is for the artistic tot who loves to explore new and innovative ways to create! Our Junior Makers will be spending the summer exploring a variety of art forms through simplified projects where they can work on fine motor skills, develop inner creativity, and explore what modes of artistic expression they love the most!

Glow in the Dark Sea Creatures
Ready to explore a magical world of lights and color at the bottom of the ocean? Our Junior Makers will spend the session using glow-in-the-dark materials, bright paints and a dose of creativity to create amazing projects like an underwater seascape, jellyfish lamps, and mermaid puppets!

Animals Gone Wild!
This session, our Junior Makers will be exploring all sorts of artistic avenues to bring their favorite animals to life! From paper lion and tiger masks to suncatcher sea turtles to handprint crabs, our Junior Makers will come home each day with an exciting new animal to share with their families.

Ceramics: Pinch Pots
Are you interested in learning about pottery? This introductory session is perfect for beginners and young artists who want to try their hand at ceramics. During this session, our Junior Makers will spend their time at the JCC’s Ceramics studio with master potters who can help campers learn the basics of this timeless art.

Throughout the summer, Shai Makers will be hosting specialty art programs for campers craving extra art studio time. Ranging from wire sculpture-making to paper-mâché and map-making, our summer offerings are sure to excite any young artiste!

Insect Wire Sculptures
Are you interested in learning more about wire sculpting? This session is a great option for young artists looking to learn a new skill! Our Apprentice Makers will draw inspiration from the many-legged insects of our world to create a sculpture of their favorite creepy crawly.

Ocean-Inspired Ceramics
Our Apprentice Makers will spend this session in the JCC Ceramics Studio working with master potters to develop their pottery skills. During this session, our Apprentice Makers will draw their inspiration from the ocean.

Paper Mâché Zoo
Have you always hoped to create your very own zoo in your backyard? Our Apprentice Makers will be doing just that by learning the art of paper mâché and creating a variety of animal sculptures to fill the zoo of their dreams!

Buried Treasure: Map Making & Coin Design
Have you always dreamt of creating your own buried treasure map? In this session, our Apprentice Makers will spend their first week of camp learning all about map-making to create their very own fantasy world where hidden treasure could be just around the corner. In their second week of camp, they will get to use our 3D printers to create one-of-a-kind coins and trinkets that would send any adventurer on an epic quest!
