Frequently Asked Questions

In addition to limiting the number of new interactions campers have during the summer, we are continuing to run two-week sessions. In addition to being more COVID-safe, we have noticed that campers have a much better experience the longer they are with us. Multi-weeks at Camp Shai means that campers get to fully integrate and feel comfortable in the camp environment. After the initial “warm up” period, the Shai Magic can really begin! A longer camp experience allows campers to settle into the camp routine Starting with morning circle (all-camp assembly), moving on to a day full of games and activity rotations, and wrapping up with a song allows campers to learn the ropes and feel part of the camp community.  It makes the experience more impactful and fun – and it also leads to deeper relationships with fellow campers and counselors.

This small group size allows us follow COVID-19 precautions well while also limiting potential exposure should there be a positive case present. Should the situation change, group sizes may increase pending CDC recommendations prior to the summer.

For the summer of 2021, we will be offering Sunset Care (aftercare) as an additional option to add on to the end of the camp day. Sunset care will run until 5:30 PM. Contact Allison Marshall amarshall@jccdenver.org to sign up

Camp Shai focuses on universal human values with a Jewish lens. We embrace everyone who wants to be a part of our community. We welcome campers of all backgrounds. If you like games, being outdoors, and having the best summer ever, Camp Shai is the place for you.

In Hebrew, middot translates to ‘values’. Camp Shai focuses on the values of kindness, community, respect, and good sportsmanship. In fact, these values permeate every aspect of camp from the staff to the campers to the activities.

Each group will swim once a week. On other days, groups may be playing some water games or participate in activities where they might get wet. It is always a good idea to pack a swimsuit and towel (and an extra pair of clothes for our first-time campers).

Camp Shai does not provide meal service. Please pack AM Snack, Lunch, and PM snack with your camper every day. We do provide challah and grapes on Shabbat.
