Frequently Asked Questions

No, you do not have to be Jewish to attend. Camp Shai focuses on universal human values (middot) with a Jewish lens; however, we embrace everyone who wants to be a part of our community. If you like games, being outdoors, and having the best summer ever, then Camp Shai is the place for you!

In Hebrew, middot translates to ‘values. Camp Shai focuses on the values of kindness (chesed), community (kehillah), respect (kavod), positive attitude (ruach), and courage (ometz lev). We use these words every day at camp and encourage campers to recognize when their peers exhibit one of these values.

Yes! Camp Shai offers Sunrise Care from 7:30 – 8:30am and Sunset Care from 3:30 – 5:30pm as an additional option. If you are interested in registering your camper, please contact Nhi Vong via email

Campers enrolled at Camp Shai will have the opportunity to swim at the JCC’s Outdoor Pool two times per week.

  • If you are interested in applying for scholarships, you will select the “Scholarship Payment Plan” upon registration. Selecting this will require a $250 non-refundable deposit (per camper, per session) and then direct you to a payment plan, in which 10% of the remaining total will be charged on the 1st of each month concluding on March 1st. Once scholarship awards are announced in April 2024, our registrar will work with you to set up a payment plan for any remaining balance.

If you need to withdraw for financial reasons, your tuition is 100% refundable minus the $250 non-refundable deposit (per camper, per session).

If you are unable to make this type of financial commitment, contact us prior to registration to set up a custom payment option.

We use FAST financial aid services to review and award financial need-based scholarships. Families applying for financial aid will need to complete an application and submit the necessary supporting documentation to FAST.

The due date for scholarship applications will be announced by the end of 2023. If you have any issues with submitting your 2023 tax returns, you must contact Camp Shai directly at info@jccdenver.org.

Camp sessions are two weeks long. If you are interested in signing your camper up for only one week of a 2-week session, please contact Nhi Vong via email for availability.

Camp Shai is a nut-free community. While we recognize that food restrictions can often be an additional burden for parents and their sometimes-picky eaters, we have made this policy change to accommodate the number of severe nut allergies amongst our camper and staff community, ensuring that everyone is safe.

We invest in hiring high-quality staff members. We know that doing so directly translates into creating a welcoming, safe, and magical experience for your camper. Camp Shai provides on-site training for all staff members to ensure their understanding of emergency procedures, best practices for working with campers, and a certification in CPR and First Aid. We strive to run our programs at an 8:1 ratio of campers to staff so that children at Camp Shai feel supported and safe.

  • Any cancellations made before March 1st, 2024, will result in a full refund of payments made minus the $100 non-refundable deposit per camper, per session.
