About the Performers:
It’s been a long and varied journey for Ben Sidran — from playing boogie woogie piano as a six year old in Racine, Wisconsin, leaning into his jazz records, listening to a Blue Mitchell solo “literally like an Eskimo huddled around a fire” to growing up to play boogie woogie piano around the world and, eventually, recording with Blue Mitchell on his first solo album. Despite the reality that Sidran is better known in Europe and Japan than in America—a fact of life for most jazz musicians—Ben Sidran is an American success story.
Minneapolis native bassist Billy Peterson‘s uncompromising talents as a performer have brought him widespread recognition, as well as his credits as a composer, arranger and producer. So it is no surprise that the world-renowned bassist is quite often also compared with a chameleon, at home in several genres of music whether it be rock, pop, R&B, soul, jazz, folk or country. During his extensive musical career, he has worked with many acclaimed artists, among them Carlos Santana, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Prince, Les Paul, Steve Miller, Ben Sidran, Dave King, and Mose Allison.
Leo Sidran is an award winning multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, recording artist, podcast host based in Brooklyn, NY. His productions have won both an Oscar and a Grammy, and he has made five albums as a solo artist. The most recent, Cool School [The Music of Michael Franks] was released in April 2018 on Warner Music. He hosts the podcast “The Third Story” featuring long-form conversations with members of the creative class, and he tours regularly with his father, Ben.
