For nearly 20 years, we’ve offered a wide range of classes for artists of all experience levels–from novices to experts. Our classes are lead by a team of professional visual artists, who are also experienced instructors, who work tirelessly to provide engaging and entertaining hands-on instruction in ceramics, painting, drawing, and more. We pride ourselves on building a community of artists who are passionate about learning, creating, and showing their work.

Introduction to Ceramics

This course covers the fundamentals of Ceramics. The first half will introduce the techniques of hand-building through pinching, coiling, and slab building. The second half will be wheel-focused, with the goal of teaching students how to properly throw, trim, and glaze their pieces. Each class will be assignment-oriented and will teach the basics of creating with clay.

Beginning Ceramics Wheel Throwing

This class is designed for beginners and for those who want to improve their basic throwing skills.  Come get your hands dirty in this fun and thorough introduction to throwing clay on the pottery wheel! This class will provide hands-on instruction covering the fundamentals of wedging clay, centering, opening, pulling up, and shaping your pots.

Beginning Ceramics Handbuilding

This class builds on the handbuilding skills taught in the introduction to ceramics course. This class is designed for beginners and for those who want to improve their handbuilding skills. In this class, we will expand upon the techniques of pinching, coiling, and slab building. Through this course students will create both functional tableware and conceptual sculpture. There will be no wheel throwing in this class.

Beginning Ceramics Wheelthrowing & Handbuilding

A wheel and hand-building-focused class that builds on the fundamentals taught in the Introduction to Ceramics course. Students will strengthen their wheel skills with guidance from the instructor on how to throw, trim, and glaze pieces. An emphasis will be placed on properly centering, opening, pulling, and shaping vessels. Students will explore and expand upon their hand-building skills of coiling, slab, and pinching.

All classes start with instructor-led demonstrations and follow with independent student practice. This series may be taken on a recurring basis until students feel comfortable advancing to the intermediate series.

Intermediate/Advanced Ceramics Wheelthrowing & Handbuilding

This course is for those who have already taken the Introduction to Ceramics and Beginners series or have approval from the ceramics department. Classes are designed to allow room for student exploration of more advanced wheel and hand-building techniques. Students who take this class have an idea of the ceramic projects they want to do and prefer a free-flowing class. The instructor is there to help facilitate your clay journey and to suggest ideas on how to refine your project.

Life Drawing: (Session Class)

This class will concentrate on the fundamental skills of drawing the human figure using live models. Explore techniques including quick gesture sketches, contour drawing, value, shading, color, and composition with short and long poses. Learn to develop personal creative expression in an encouraging atmosphere. The instructor will work individually with students of all abilities.

Learn to develop paintings using a wide variety of ideas and techniques. Explore design, color, composition, and spontaneity. In this class, you’ll create a small, woven wall-hanging using assorted yarn and fabric scraps. Grab a friend or come on your own, and see how the practice of weaving can center your mind and transform your perspective.

Need a creative outlet and don’t know where to start? Maybe you just need a dedicated time and space set aside to get things flowing?
