Looking for an enriching summer experience for your student? Wolf Theatre Academy (WTA) is Denver’s premier theatre training program for rising 4th through 12th graders. Campers gain hands-on experience by working with local professionals on full-scale productions, all while building confidence and enjoying time with peers. Spaces are filling up fast for WTA camps this summer, which run from June 16 to August 1, 2025.
For 17-year-old Luci Hernandez, WTA at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center at JCC Denver has become a second home. A passionate performer with strong vocal prowess, Luci first discovered WTA when her mother, Stacey, suggested she audition for Something Rotten! two summers ago. “It’s a warm and welcoming community” Stacey shares. “WTA helps kids build self-esteem, and they’re all so supportive of each other. There’s none of that typical teen drama.”
Luci agrees, emphasizing how safe and supportive the experience has been. “The directors are very open to your discomforts and offer alternative scenes if you feel uncomfortable,” she gushes. “Plus, everything feels professional. We get to work on stage from day one and watch the entire set transform throughout the process.”

Productions at WTA go above and beyond, featuring experienced, well-known educators, a live orchestra, professional-grade costumes, high-quality props, and other technical elements that meet the caliber of the most renowned programs. “We also get to perform with microphones, which is rare for community theatre,” Luci adds. WTA welcomes back returning teens and new faces alike, ensuring a fresh and unbiased casting process. Last summer, Luci explored the technical side of theatre, volunteering as a Production Assistant for WTA’s High School Musical 2 Junior through the Pluss Theatre program, designed for children in grades 4–7. “It was so cool to be behind the scenes instead of on stage—it taught me a lot of patience,” she says. “And I just loved the whole team.” The mother-daughter duo recently joined the JCC Fitness Center, where they’re now regulars. “We just love the community, so we’ve spilled over to this side of it, too,” Stacey says.
Having also performed in Mean Girls last summer; Luci is thrilled to return for her third season at WTA in The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid promises to be a standout production, featuring a multitalented cast with a mix of singing, acting, and dancing, and amazing technical additions. Luci is excited to learn new skills while enjoying some special WTA traditions and returning friends.
WTA is currently accepting camper applications for 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse (June 16 – 27, 2025) and Seussical Jr. (July 21 – August 1) in the Pluss Theatre for grades 4 – 7; The Little Mermaid (June 12 – July 13) on the main stage; and The Little Mermaid – Technical Apprenticeship (June 9 – 13) for grades 8 – 12.
