Lifelong Denverite Leah Pearson attended both the Early Learning School (ELS) and Wolf Theatre Academy (WTA) as a young girl. “My mom would take me swimming in the Outdoor Pool after ELS or WTA,” she remembers. Now, Leah returns to JCC Denver every summer with her two children, June (4) and Ronin (6) with the Summer Family Membership. “What’s nice for me, as a parent, is that the hours are very reasonable. I can reliably come to JCC Denver any time of day, even in the evening,” she shares. Plus, access to amenities “as a parent, helps lessen the load.”

Aquatics Lap Swimming

Making a splash at the JCC Denver pool—where every lap brings you closer to a healthier lifestyle and a supportive community!

As someone who loves water, Leah frequently uses JCC Denver for the Outdoor Pool. She finds the full-body, low-impact workout meditative, and “can breathe in some fresh air during all the seasons,” she gushes. Leah shares how “it’s a nice perk that the JCC Denver Summer Family Membership stays open late,” adding, “it’s a good deal and worth the investment for a parent or family in town.” Children June and Ronin both took swimming lessons at JCC Denver before joining mom in the pool. “It’s important to me that my kids are swimmers and can play and be safe and comfortable in the water,” she notes.

In Jewish tradition, encouraging a child to learn to swim is viewed as a loving step toward safeguarding their well-being, reflecting the timeless value of preserving life.

A typical day at JCC Denver for the Pearsons means arriving around 10:00 am with a packed lunch, and swimming for 1.5 hours before picnicking on by the nearby grassy area with benches. Then, the kids might play on the attached playground or join Leah in the pool again before heading home at 1:00 pm. At other times, kids and their mom might arrive around 3:30 pm and stay until 5:00 pm, when their dad will bring Chipotle takeout for an early family dinner by the pool. “We know people in the Denver community, and so before heading out I might text some of the parents of our kid’s friends, “Are you going to JCC Denver today?” for a playdate meetup by the pool.
