Help Send a Kid to Camp or School!
Written by Shlomit Ovadia of JCC Denver.
Help ensure every child who desires to attend our exceptional camps and preschool programs, has the opportunity to do so. Join us on April 7 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at TopGolf, in Centennial as we swing to Golf FORE Kids!
This enjoyable, annual event — Tzedakah 4 Kids (T4K) — raises money for the Bob Loup Scholarship Fund, which provides families in need with scholarships to attend JCC Ranch Camp, Camp Shai, the Early Learning School (ELS), and Wolf Theatre Academy (WTA).
I had an opportunity to talk to Robyn Loup about why the Bob Loup Scholarship Fund is so crucial to providing scholarships to kids in need.
During the JCC’s nascent years, she and Bob Loup served on a small scholarship committee board. The members would meticulously evaluate every submission form, as the funds could only cover a small portion of applicants.
“They’d ask me to leave the room for a little bit to make some decisions. When I’d come back, I knew that they’d donated enough to cover the rest of the costs anonymously,” says Robyn. “They weren’t going to leave any child behind—that was the ethic.”
Having both attended JCC day programming as children, Robyn and Bob understood firsthand the importance of camp for Jewish children, and how it is pivotal in the formation of their Jewish identities. “There is this continuum with camp…it can be a liftoff to other Jewish activities,” she adds.
When JCC Denver began receiving an influx of donations made in Bob’s honor after his passing, they turned to Robyn. Where would Bob have wanted those donations to be directed to?
“My immediate memory was these guys in a room making sure that every child got a scholarship. I wanted to continue Bob’s ethic, so it represents his legacy,” forming what is now known as the Bob Loup Scholarship Fund.
You can support the Bob Loup Scholarship Fund by joining JCC Denver’s T4K event on April 7.
The family-friendly evening will be taking place at Topgolf, which offers year-round, climate-controlled hitting bays. Included in the T4K entry fee is a fajita bar, unlimited soft drinks, and an opportunity to win prizes from local restaurants, the J, and local hotels.
T4K offers packages for all ages, including entries into the Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive competitions, which are divided by age and experience level.
No golfing experience is necessary! For those who prefer to opt out of playing yet want to tag along on the crowdfunding fun, T4K also offers non-golfer tickets and exciting prizes for participants.
To reach our goals this year, JCC Denver has created other fun opportunities to support T4K.
Jump in on the fun during our five days of peer-to-peer online fundraising campaign, April 1-5. Show your program loyalty by donating to one of the preexisting teams, (Red, Yellow, Blue, Green) or create your own!
During this crowdfunding week in April, JCC Denver will be displaying each team’s fundraising progress in the JCC Lobby. Scan the displayed QR codes to donate directly to a color-coded team of your choice and let the games begin!
Join us in reaching our goal of $80,000 to help kids attend these programs! Here is a breakdown of where your money will go:
$45: 1 day at Early Learning School for a preschool-age student during the school year
$65: 1 day at Early Learning School for an infant during the school year
$250: 1 week of Wolf Theatre Academy for 1 kid
$475: 1 week at Camp Shai for 1 kid
$1,500: 1 week at Ranch Camp for 1 kid
“When you can put a face and name to a child and know their stories before or after going to camp, you want them to have that experience (again). When you know their stories, you want to help them,” Robyn says.
Secure your tickets for Topgolf here or donate online today. Together, we can shape the lives of future generations and honor Bob Loup’s commitment to childhood enrichment opportunities.
