Izak- A Light Among Many
If you have ever walked through the JCC Lobby, you’ve probably seen our “unofficial greeter,” Izak Rozencwajg, otherwise known as “Frenchie.” Every day, Izak would take the bus to the JCC to see friends, meet new people, and eat lunch at the Community Lunch Table Program in partnership with JFS.
The Holocaust survivor recently departed this world after celebrating his 95th birthday while being surrounded by loved ones. It seems like just yesterday his smiling face was greeting those passing by with, “Good morning”, and, “Have a wonderful day.” Izak’s kind and giving soul was an integral and bright constant in our community—we will miss him, but not forget his special impact on our members.
The JCC offers many senior programs such as Beginning Mahjong, Current Events and Schmooze, and Senior Arts and Crafts. Having the JCC to return to, day after day, has played a vital role in their lives, especially as a demographic that suffered profoundly during Covid isolation lockdowns.
Izak is the epitome of what the JCC stands for, and we hope to continue spreading his joy to all who visit. We’ll miss you, Izak.
