Colorado Parent – Vote for Baby Café!

Oops, sorry, Baby Café.
Believe it or not, Baby Cafés are not a new concept. For the past four years, the J has been a site for Baby Café USA, an organization that promotes community health and inclusivity, and provides breastfeed/chestfeeding support for new parents. Each week, parents and babies come together at the J to share suggestions and frustrations and experience the joy of watching one’s baby grow and be nourished. As a Tier 1 Baby Café site, we have an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) present at all meetings for feeding support and weighted feeds (when you weigh an infant before and after feeding, to compare weight and nutrition intake). We invite local specialists to come educate, evaluate, and discuss a wide range of topics, including adjusting to parenthood, nutrition, babywearing, sleep and routines, formula and breastfeeding, back to work, vision board creating, childcare, work/life balance, and more. We even provide breastfeeding pillows!
Aside from the educational aspects, Baby Café is often a desperately needed source of community and camaraderie for new parents, who may find themselves in a new city, adjusting to the role of caregiver, or experiencing a myriad of other struggles. As one JCC Baby Café “alum” wrote;
“It has meant everything to me to have access to the Baby Café since relocating to Denver with my family from NYC. The Baby Café community has been integral to our family’s ability to develop a sense of community in a new place. Motherhood, especially during the infant and toddler years, can be extremely isolating… I will forever be grateful that this program exists. I hope every mom gets the chance to participate in this program”
Baby Café can make a world of difference in the early months of parenting – and at the JCC, we’re proud to be the space where growth and nurturing takes place. We plan on continuing to offer community and education to young parents – and you know how you can help us do it?
