Blair Becker is in the house!
We are thrilled to introduce you to Blair, our new Engagement Program Manager. You’ll likely see Blair around the building, but we thought it was best to share this fantastic interview with you all so you can better “meet” the new face at the J!
Q: Hey Blair! Welcome to the JCC Denver. Are you originally from Colorado?
BB: I am actually from the (equally) sunny town of Yorba Linda, California, but I moved to Colorado in 2014 to attend the University of Denver in hopes of becoming an educator.
Q: Was it always your dream to work as an educator?
BB: As a young person, my dream was to change lives and make a positive impact on the world through tikkun olam and build meaningful connections. Post-college, I returned to California to earn my Master’s Degree in Education from UC Davis (go Aggies!) and taught English Language Arts to middle schoolers for three years.
Q: We think it’s safe to say you’re already doing that here at the J! Speaking of, we know your exploration of your Jewish identity is incredibly important to you. Has it always been?
BB: Growing up, I was incredibly active with the Jewish community. As I continued to grow, so too did my Jewish identity. With my older sister, I traveled to Israel on a birthright trip. I baked challah at the DU Hillel and hosted my friends for the High Holidays. I’ve always enjoyed exploring what Judaism means to me with the help of my family, friends, and partner, Logan.
Q: What were some of your favorite hobbies growing up? Any favorite hobbies now?
BB: As a kid, I was really into marching band, athletics, and leadership. I continue to love all of those things, but I’ll add classic novels and ultimate frisbee to the list, as well.
Q: Is there anything else you want the JCC Denver community to know about you?
BB: I love working with both children and adults alike and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to do so in this new position. Now that I am back in Colorado, I am eager to contribute to this beautiful Jewish community. If you see me around, please say hello!
Thank you for your time, Blair! We can’t wait to see all you accomplish here at the J.
