Shana Tova from your friends at Cherry Creek Theatre!
We are the proud, award-winning resident theatre company here at the JCC Mizel Arts and Culture Center. Since 2017, we’ve been a part of the Neustadt JAAMM Series delivering beloved JAAMM productions like Tuesdays with Morrie, My Name is Asher Lev, Beau Jest and its hilarious sequel, Jest a Second!
This fall, we’re soaring to new heights with the Tony Award-winning play, Peter and the Starcatcher. Acclaimed for its original music, clever staging, and heartfelt story, this Peter Pan prequel will spark your imagination and inspire your inner child with its wonder, beauty, and depth.
“My Judaism is very central to who I am,” said playwright Rick Elice. “Peter remains the eternal outsider, who doesn’t have a place at the table.” In Elice’s eyes, the title character, trapped in adolescence, is “a kind of Moses-child denied entrance to the Promised Land. The Promised Land is not eternal youth, but adulthood.”
“Elice said that as a Jew who has experienced anti-Semitism, he connected personally with the characters’ ‘otherness’: ‘I’ve felt it in the coldness of a handshake,’ he said. He also recounted how, in the early 1980s at Harvard University, a man barred him from entering a prestigious club, proclaiming, ‘No Jews allowed.” (Naomi Pfefferman, Jewish Journal)
We hope that anyone who has felt “othered” can see themselves in the emotional, musical story and find community in the band of ragtag orphans, pernicious pirates, and magical mermaids. Playful, funny, and family-friendly, the play features a wildly talented and diverse 12-person ensemble led by a non-binary performer in the title role.
Bring the whole family! Tickets start at $20 for kids, and students (12 and up) are just $26. (link to the ticket website)
We hope to see you at the Pluss Theatre October 28–November 20 for this charming production of Peter and the Starcatcher. Get your tickets now before they all fly away!
Sincerely,
The Team at Cherry Creek Theatre
