New Director of the JCC Early Learning School!

Paula has worked as a JCC ELS educator for six years and we couldn’t be happier to see her don a new, much-deserved role. To introduce Paula to our greater JCC family, we sat down with her one-on-one a few days ago so you could hear from her personally.

Q: Congratulations on your new role, Paula! What are you most excited about as you transition to Director of the ELS?

PV: There are many reasons why I wanted to change from a classroom teacher to an administrator, but the most significant reason was the chance to learn new things. Having been a teacher for so long, I’ve mastered that field and want to take on new challenges. I’m also looking forward to using all my experience to help and support children, families, and teachers.

Q: Why did you choose to work in the non-profit world, and more specifically, in the Jewish Community sector?

PV: People have so many different skill sets in non-profit organizations. I’m eager to learn from everyone! This Jewish community is so welcoming and embraces all, and I love that about them!

Q: How do you choose to build your own community?

PV: Building relationships with families, children, and staff are key to creating a solid community. Getting to know everyone will be a challenge I’m ready to take on!

Q: What is one fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

PV: Most people don’t know I’m a huge Star Wars fan! One of my heroes growing up as Princess Leia. I was impressed with her because she had such a powerful presence as a woman and that even a giant hairy Wookie listened to her.

Q: Which literary character are you most like?

PV: Of course, I feel closer to children’s literature than adults. For that reason, I’ve chosen Piggie, of The Elephant and Piggie stories by Mo Willems. Piggie is always there for her friend, Gerald. She makes their time together fun and loves to dress up and be silly!

Q: What are three words those closest to you would use to describe you?

PV: I think all who know me well would say I’m fun, dedicated, and passionate about my work.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

PV: A warm, beautiful beach with lots of shells and sea glass. The ocean is a peaceful place where I love collecting beautiful things.

We’re delighted to have Paula as our new Director of the ELS! If you see her around, be sure to say, “Hi!”
