Camp Shai is excited to introduce new leadership as we embark on a new season of 2022 Summer Camps. Priority Registration opens January 3, 2022 and Public Registration opens January 20, 2022.

Introducing Sarah:

Sarah Jones, Director

This is Sarah’s first summer at Camp Shai and she is so excited to be a part of the Shai community here in Denver. Her favorite parts of camp are getting pied in the face and wearing silly costumes. Sarah’s current favorite camp song is “60s Party”. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading books about history, and spending time with her cat, Commissioner Jim Gordon.

Sarah has been working in the summer camp industry since her first job as a Junior Counselor when she was 15 years old. She has many years of experience working at both day camps and residential camps. Most recently, she worked as the Camp Director at a day camp focused on STEM learning in Chicago, IL. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies from Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!) and a Master’s Degree in Education from Northwestern University (Go Wildcats!).

Q & A with Sarah:

What will you be responsible for in your new role?

As the Director of Camp Shai, I am responsible for all aspects of programming that caters to youth (K-8th) with a special focus on the JCC’s summer day camp program, Camp Shai. At camp, I work to make sure that our programs are fun and engaging and support our seasonal teams to ensure that summertime is everyone’s favorite time of year at the J! During the school year, I support with year-round programming like School’s Out and work to maintain our camp’s accreditation through the American Camps Association (ACA) and Colorado state licensing.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I come to this role with years of experience in both the summer camp industry as well as traditional education settings. I cannot wait to get to know the traditions that make Camp Shai special and I’m most looking forward to getting to know this community that we serve!

Tell us one thing you would like the community to know about you.

I absolutely love summer camp! My very first job was as a volunteer Junior Counselor when I was 14 years old and, ever since, no summer feels complete without silly camp costumes, repeat-after-me songs, and getting pied in the face. I can’t wait to bring my favorite traditions and activities to this community for years to come.

How do you spend your spare time?

I’m a certified Social Studies teacher and must admit that I spend a lot of time reading biographies and listening to history podcasts. Besides that, I enjoy hiking, spending time with my friends, playing with my cat (Commissioner Jim Gordon), and watching movies.
