This week’s edition of “In The Loup” comes from Stacy Swiggart, Director of the James M Swiggart Tennis Center.
Hello from the James M Swiggart Tennis Center…. It’s hard to believe that August is already here. We have had a wonderful time at the Tennis Center with adult programs and tennis lessons over the summer and I would like to give big kudos to all our staff, campers, and parents for making this a fun and safe summer for all!
We had eight fantastic weeks of tennis camps, each of which was sold out and full of eager students. I am so proud of our young staff that was made up of high school seniors, college students and one elementary school teacher. Each week they arrived every day with big smiles on their faces, and had the kids engaged quickly with tennis and games. We welcomed 4 – 8 year olds for Serve, Snack and Splash Camp and loved building relationships with our kiddos. Some children felt timid and didn’t want to let go of mom or dad’s hand, but were always coaxed out to the tennis courts by our fine staff. Within minutes our shy participants were completely engaged with our program. We even had a 4-year-old that was so eager, she had to come to tennis 30 minutes early so she wouldn’t miss out on the fun! Our afternoons were filled with tennis camps for the older kids and we had a great time every week. As I thanked my staff for a job well done, I couldn’t help but notice the pride and confidence each of them had gained working camp. My coaches have such bright futures ahead of them in whatever they pursue in life!
As our summer programs end, we are gearing up for a busy fall season with permanent court time, adult drill classes, Top Dog league for adults, and our Junior Programs. We are excited to see both returning as well as new faces as the weather cools off!
If you missed the latest article in the New York Times, tennis was named as being one of the leading sports to keep us active and healthy, both physically and mentally throughout the years. If you haven’t been to the James M. Swiggart JCC Tennis Center recently, stop by and see what we are all about – we would love to show you around.
Regards,
Stacy Swiggart
