Dear JCC Community, Love means nothing when keeping score in a tennis match, but at The James M. Swiggart JCC Tennis Center, we are one big family/community. I have been at the J for 5 years now, and before that, my husband and I ran the Tennis Center in Steamboat Springs for 25 years. I have been in the tennis business for a long time and enjoy meeting and making new friends wherever I am. When we re-opened JCC tennis a few years ago, we started off with a membership of zero, but within a few months we were on our way to building a strong membership base. Now, not only do we have a great group of members, but we offer top notch junior academy, leagues, tournaments, drills, cardio, and lessons. This would not be possible if it weren’t for our awesome staff. We love seeing everyone’s smiling faces as they enter the J and sharing our love of the game of tennis. We recently introduced the popular sport of Pickleball as a new program offering at the Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday nights. If you want to know what this new craze is all about, come join us for some fun, as guests are welcome. On Friday night we have two courts for instruction, with the remainder of the courts open for play based on ability level. Saturday night is open play on all courts with lots of fun for all to be had! If you are interested in playing, you can reserve your court time by calling us at 303.316.6380 or by searching “James M. Swiggart Tennis Center” and registering on the Kourts App (App Store | Google Play). Summer is right around the corner and we will be offering junior team tennis along with the popular “Serve, Snack, and Splash” camps and junior camps. With the addition of new ceiling fans on the tennis courts, this summer should be much more comfortable to play inside and practice good skin safety! There are no worries about the sun, wind, or rain while playing indoors. The pandemic put a stop to tennis here at the JCC for awhile, but after six months we were able to open the doors again. It has been wonderful to see the return of many of our members as well as welcome new faces this past year. Tennis is booming at the J, and we appreciate everyone’s continued support and commitment to the safety protocols (mask wearing is still a must!) that we must adhere to as dictated by the City of Denver. Tennis is a great sport that not only gets your heart rate up, but is also good for the mind. It is a great way to meet people and spend time with friends. It is suitable for all ages – nothing brings me more joy than seeing young kids learn the sport to our mature members continuing to get their exercise and to play to stay young and healthy. Tennis is a sport you can play for a lifetime! Many times over the last few months, I have heard many of of our tennis members exclaim, “JCC Tennis is my happy place”. We love hearing those words, and please know that it brings great joy to us to provide this experience for the community! If you haven’t been inside the Tennis Center recently, please stop by and take a look around. We have had some great improvements since we reopened. I look forward to meeting each and everyone of you and to make your J experience that much better with JCC tennis as a part of it! Sincerely, Stacy Swiggart Director of Tennis |
