Austin
What summer will this be for you at Camp Shai?
Austin: This will be my second year at Camp Shai.
Why do you like being a counselor at Camp Shai?
A: I like being a counselor at Camp Shai because I want to be a Nurse Practitioner in Pediatrics as my future career, so being a counselor gives me the ability to impact lives for children and make their experience the best it can be. I love making sure every child is included and is fully present in the moment when we are at camp so they can make quality friends, grow, and learn.
What was a favorite memory at Camp Shai last summer?
A: My favorite memory was working with my group (Chaverim) where we always had a great time, we would play their favorite songs through the hallways, always laugh, and goof around. At the same time, my favorite memory was being able to be their mentor and role model for my group, which I came to appreciate and so did my campers.
What are you looking the most forward to for this summer?
A: I look forward to making an amazing and exciting atmosphere for these children so that everyday they come home and are non-stop talking about what exciting new things they did that day at camp.
Mya
What summer will this be for you at Camp Shai?
Mya: This will be my thirteenth summer at Camp Shai!
Why do you like being a counselor at Camp Shai?
M: I love being a counselor at Camp Shai because I am able to see lifelong friendships begin to form and see children conquer goals they were challenged.
What was a favorite memory at Camp Shai last summer?
M: My favorite memory from last year was the Superhero themed Friday Funday where each camper was completely engaged and excited to dress up their counselors as a superhero with an accompanying backstory.
What are you looking the most forward to for this summer?
M: I am very excited for Maccabiah this year, because it’s happening twice! It is always a spirited time at Camp and will be even more with the amazing themes for the events.
