Bye, Bye Birdie is one of the most captivating musical shows of our time. Agent and songwriter Albert Peterson finds himself in trouble when hip-thrusting rock and roll superstar Conrad Birdie is drafted into the Army. Albert's secretary and sweetheart, Rose Alvarez, comes up with a last-ditch publicity stunt to have Conrad Birdie record and perform a song before he is sent overseas. They plan to have Birdie sing Albert's new song "One Last Kiss" and give one lucky girl from his fan club a real "last kiss" on The Ed Sullivan Show before going into the Army. Kim MacAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio wins the honor. The MacAfee household is completely upset by the visiting celebrity. Kim's father tries to break into the act and behaves like a ham on the TV show. Rosie, still waiting for Albert to pop the question after eight years, makes her move. Everything works out in the end as the cast decides to Put on a Happy Face. Once Upon a Mattress is the classic Broadway musical version of the fairytale "The Princess and the Pea" and features music by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Marshall Barer. A fictional medieval kingdom is ruled by the devious Queen Aggravain and the mute King Sextimus the Silent. No one is allowed to get married until the Prince Dauntless the Drab gets engaged. The Queen makes sure that no eligible ladies will qualify so that she can stay in control. Sir Harry wants to marry his girlfriend, Lady Larkin, so he finds the wacky Princess Winnifred (“Fred” for short) to try her hand at the Queen's test. The Queen decides to give her what she believes to be an impossible test - to sleep on twenty mattresses and be sensitive enough to feel the tiny pea that lies underneath them. The result is both heartwarming and hilarious.
