Building Our Future a Half-Shekel at a Time
The half-shekel story, told in the Book of Exodus begins with God asking Moses to embark on the ultimate capital campaign. Moses must oversee the construction of the Ark and Tabernacle that will hold the Tablets given on Mount Sinai.
The Tabernacle and its sacred vessels had to be built out of precious metals, woods and fabrics, crafted in a specificway. Moses asked every member of the tribe to donate a half-shekel. And every single Israelite participated!
By donating a half-shekel each person gained ownership of the Jewish future and received the privilege of saying that they had contributed. The affordable amount ensured that nobody was excluded.
JCC South Denver
Growing communities need resources. Jewish Community Centers can be instrumental in helping a community gain cohesion, particularly with families not affiliated in other ways.
When our ancestors fled from Egypt, every Israelite was asked to contribute a half-shekel to enable the entire people to participate in the future growth of the young nation. Today, we can echo the marvel of that effort by having a modern-day version of the half-shekel campaign that will enable every individual and family in SouthMetro Denver to shape the future of our community.
As a first step, the JCC has leased a multi purpose space in Greenwood Village, 9625 E.Arapahoe Road (Corner of Arapahoe and Dayton) to hold programs and provide a welcoming and comfortable space to meet and socialize. The second step is up to you.

The JCC was fortunate to receive a generous grant for start-up costs for JCC South Denver. Operating funding is contingent on philanthropic contributions from local families. In 2013 that means we need to raise $25,000 as a community in order to bring you the great programming you associate with the Denver JCC.
