The Mizel Arts & Culture Center

The MACC operates the arts and culture programs that take place at the JCC campus.  The MACC is a separate non-profit organization charged with a mission that is focused more specifically on the arts. This allows the Center to apply for many arts specific grants that improve the quality and scope of cultural offerings to our patrons.  Our facilities include the 300 seat Shwayder Theatre, the 100 seat Pluss Theatre, a preschool theatre classroom, the Singer Art Gallery, the Cooper Art Gallery, an art studio and a ceramics studio.

The Mizel Arts and Culture Center illuminates the human experience through creative and cultural programs in the performing, visual, and literary arts for the Jewish community and the community at large.  We strive to produce, present, exhibit, advance and preserve the arts, serving as a performance and exhibition venue and as an educational resource for people at every stage of life.

Major MACC programs include:

  • Singer Art Gallery: Five major professional visual art exhibitions per year.
  • Leah Cohen Festival of Jewish Books and Authors:A three-week book festival in November/December that includes an author lecture series.  Last year 10 nationally known authors presented lecture events.
  • Denver Jewish Film Festival:A ten-day film festival in February featuring 12-18 films exploring Jewish themes.  This year was the 11th Anniversary of this program.
  • Denver Children’s Theatre: Adult actors performing for children in a season running from March through May for school and public audiences.  This program also includes a hands-on theatre workshop program for some students following our performance.  This year’s production, Sleeping Beauty, is a new adaptation of the classic fairy tale.
  • Wolf Theatre Academy: Theatre classes and mainstage productions for student performers.  Classes during the Fall, Winter and Spring generally meet once per week.  Summer classes meet daily for one to three weeks.
  • The Theatre Academy mounts 4 mainstage Productions: one in the Fall and three during the summer.
  • Mizel Art Academy: Visual arts and pottery classes for adults (year round) and children (summer only).
