Staff News
Rachel Brown has been appointed as
Aquatics director. Members may know
Rachel from her work recent work with
children’s swim lessons and tumbling
classes. Prior to her work at the JCC, Rachel
was the aquatics director at the prestigious
East Bank Club in Chicago for four years,
where she managed four pools, the lifeguard
staff and developed and expanded
the swimming lesson program. …Daniel
Solomon, assistant marketing director, has
been appointed JCC Maccabi Games director,
which the Robert E. Loup JCC will host
in 2010. …Marketing director Janice Silver
and her husband, son and daughter traveled
to Israel this past June for daughter Kelsey’s
Bat Mitzvah. “It was the first trip to Israel
for all of us and it was a wonderful experience,”
gushed Janice. “The Bat Mitzvah was
held on Masada and it was especially moving
to hold a Jewish lifecycle ritual in a place
that tried to eliminate Jewish practice nearly
2000 years ago.”
Facility News
Sports & Fitness Center members have
been enjoying new equipment lately. Items
include two Technogym WAVEs, four Precor
treadmills, four Precor ellipticals and a
complete dumbbell weights set. Members
should feel to ask staff if they have questions
about how to use any of the new pieces.
…Over 300 people guests, both Jewish and
non-Jewish, celebrated the GesherCity
launch this past July at the JCC. GesherCity
strives to “bridge” the 21–45 demographic
through interest based groups as well as
having one central calendar to let everyone
know what’s going on around Denver/Boulder.
Its central mission is outreach to young
Jews disconnected from the mainstream
Jewish community and offer them unique
outlets to be involved that appeal more
to their interests. …The Early Education
Center (ECC) used a $24,000 grant from
United Way to purchase new supplies
and materials to apply to their Qualistar rating
process. …This past August brought a
JCC Maccabi Games coaching change for
Team Denver. Josh Nigut, a professional
basketball player for Hapoel Galil Elyon in
Israel’s Premier League, replaced Charles
White. Josh has also played for professional
teams in Argentina and New Zealand as
well. The JCC Maccabi Games staff was
thrilled by this new addition. As Ben Moke,
athletic director noted, “he’s incredible with
kids and bringing someone with his experience
to the Games helped the kids with
their basketball development.” …A
$200,000 tennis court renovation was
completed this past summer, bringing
four (two clay and two hard) new outside
courts. The clay courts, an environmentally
friendly version, are unique to Colorado,
and save over
250,000 gallons of
water per year per
court versus normal
clay courts!
The JCC received
this renovation for
free thanks to their
ten-year Colorado
Tennis Management
contract.
…New doors have
been placed in the
north hallway near
room 201 and the hallway near the Wolf
card room and room 208 to secure the area
for day care and preschool rooms. …If you
haven’t yet registered your four-year old in
preschool, we have space available in our
JCC ECC. Our Pre-K program is designed
to develop the whole child: socially, intellectually,
emotionally and physically. Learning
to play cooperatively and building
positive relationships with friends are fundamental
components of our program. Our
unique program includes; weekly swim,
gym and music. Afternoon enrichment
classes including Hebrew and Spanish also
