New and gently loved books are being collected in the JCC Lobby for The Jade Bar-Shalom Books for Israel Project
Due to cutbacks by the Education Department, funds for English language learning in the public schools in Israel have been drastically cut.
There is no money to buy English language literary books. Many schools throughout Israel lack even a small library of good, readable children’s books in the English language. This is so unfortunate! English is a language that all Israeli children need to learn. It is an international language, key to communications, trade, scholarship, technical know-how, cultural exchange, and diplomacy.
This situation affects all of the children attending Israel’s schools – Jewish, Christian, Druze, Bahai, and Muslim.
You can help. Preschool – 6th grade books needed.
By donating good quality, well-chosen second-hand books to the Jade Bar-Shalom Books for Israel Project, you are not only helping Israeli children read – you are showing them that you care. Children and their families in public and private schools, K-12, are asked to donate their favorite English-language children’s books to children in Israel.
- Please donate books you value highly and wish to share with other children.
- Please donate second hand books in good or excellent condition.
- Please do not send books that are unwanted, or that are poor literary choices.
- Remember, these books are going to school libraries to foster a love of reading!
- (Parents and teachers: please help your children choose appropriately.)
- Story books accompanied by listen-along audio cassette tapes;
Books can be dropped off at the bin in the JCC Lobby. Thank you for your generous support!
