Relationships at the Heart of our Community

This time of year brings about new beginnings and the formation of new relationships for many people. Children of all ages are starting school; some for the first time. Teachers also start a new school year with new students and fresh approaches to teaching.

The High Holidays will be here before we know it and itwill be time for us to think about starting a newyear of the Jewish calendar. One of the common themes that we will see in all of these events is relationships. For those of us who have children that are in school, we will be forming new relationships with teachers and other parents. Our children will be developing relationships with new friends. And for all of us, we will take the time to contemplate those relationships that we have had for some time.We will take an inventory of how we have behaved in our relationships. We’ll need to think about how we treat others; do we listen, do we give back to those who care for us, do we share what we have with those less fortunate?

Whether we are meeting people for the first time because of new situations or looking within ourselves to contemplate our behaviors over the last year as we prepare for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we will be aware of our relationship to others in our community. In pondering these thoughts,we want to take a moment to let you know that relationship building is integral to all that we do in the Early Education and Family Programs department.
