About the Sports Hall of Fame
The JCC Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to honoring Jewish individuals that have distinguished themselves in the field of sports with the objective to foster Jewish identity through athletics. The JCC Sports Hall of Fame wall is permanently located at the JCC Denver, displaying plaques honoring those inducted in several categories, including National Sports, Regional Sports and Maccabi Athletes.
The JCC Sports Hall of Fame event is the coming together of past and current prominent Denver area athletes, both Jewish and non-Jewish. The event begins with a hot breakfast in our Phillips Social Hall where patrons spend time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Once breakfast concludes, we make our way to the Wolf Theatre where attendees are treated to a fully packed program including: the hall of fame inductee induction ceremony, the JCC Maccabi athletes induction ceremony and the treat of listening to an intimate conversation between the JCC member Les Shapiro (local sports radio host) and a prominent local athlete. In year one we got to hear John Elway talk family and telling football stories and in year two we were lucky enough to get up and coming Broncos star Shane Ray, who shed his sole about his tough upbringing and the influential people in his life that helped him go from the tough streets of Kansas City to Super Bowl champion.
